It was easy to read and had helpful exercises at the end of each unit. We used this book mostly for the semantics; the progression of units through this topic was logical, and no doubt, the units buld off of one another. For pragmatics, we used Doing Pragmatics by Gr|About the Author||Patrick Griffiths is professor of English at Beppu University, Japan.

This is a compact introduction to the study of meaning in the English language and how language is used, providing a solid foundation for further semantic studies.
